Al Thumama Stadium

Al-Thumama Stadium is a football stadium located in Doha in Al Thumama district. The architectural design of the stadium, by the Chief Architect of Arab Engineering Bureau Ibrahim Jaidah, represents the gahfiya, a traditional woven cap worn by men and boys throughout the Middle East. The gahfiya is a fundamental layer of the region’s traditional clothing. It also represents dignity and independence. The stadium is surrounded by public park. It has a capacity of 40,000.

The construction of the stadium began in 2017 and was finished by 2021 when it opened on the 21 October, on the occasion of the Amir Cup Final between Al Sadd and Al Rayyan. In 2021 the stadium hosted six matches at the FIFA Arab Cup.

Al Thumama Stadium will host eight matches during the World Cup. Six group games, a round of 16 match and quarter-final.

Following the World Cup, the capacity of the stadium will be reduced to 20,000. The stadium will be used for football and other sporting events. A branch of a sports clinic will open on site, as well as a boutique hotel, which will replace the stadium’s upper stands. The precinct surrounding the stadium will become a community hub with facilities for multiple sports.
