The Premier League, is the top level of the English football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the English Football League. Seasons run from August to May with each team playing 38 matches. The 2020–21 Premier League will be the 29th season of the Premier League since its establishment in 1992. Liverpool are the defending champions, having won their nineteenth league title the previous season, their first in the Premier League era. Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham are the new promoted teams. The season will start on September 12th. It will be the second Premier League season to have a mid-season break in February and it will also be the second Premier League season to use VAR.
