Stadium Information

BC Place is Canada’s largest stadium and a defining feature of Vancouver’s downtown skyline. Opened in 1983, the stadium was originally built with an air-supported roof, which was replaced in 2011 by a retractable cable-supported roof system. Located at the eastern edge of downtown Vancouver near False Creek, BC Place was designed as a multi-purpose venue capable of hosting football, soccer, major ceremonies and large-scale concerts.

Its modernised interior includes steep seating tiers and upgraded concourses that improved sightlines and spectator comfort. BC Place has hosted a wide range of high-profile events, including the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics, Grey Cup finals and international football matches. Matchdays vary depending on configuration, with Canadian football and soccer creating different atmospheres within the same structure.

The retractable roof allows events to take place year-round, with an open-roof setting offering views of the surrounding cityscape and a closed-roof mode creating a controlled indoorenvironment. The stadium is highly accessible via Vancouver’s public transport network, including Stadium–Chinatown SkyTrain station and multiple bus routes. Parking is available in nearby garages rather than extensive on-site lots. Accessibility features include step-free routes, lifts,

wheelchair seating platforms, adapted toilets and assistance services. Situated near Rogers Arena and downtown entertainment districts, BC Place plays a central role in Vancouver’s sporting, cultural and civic life.
