How to Get to Stamford Bridge: Transport and Tips

Matt Tait August 31, 2025
Stamford Bridge travel guide

Stamford Bridge, the home of Chelsea Football Club, sits in Fulham, South West London. For both home and away fans, planning the journey in advance makes matchday smoother. The stadium is well connected by public transport, though driving can be difficult due to limited parking and traffic restrictions.

Nearest Tube and Rail Stations

The closest Underground station is Fulham Broadway on the District Line. From there it is only a five-minute walk to the stadium. Trains can be busy on matchdays, so allow extra time for queuing both before and after the game.

Other nearby stations include:

  • West Brompton (Overground and District Line), about a 15-minute walk.
  • Earls Court (District and Piccadilly Lines), one stop away from Fulham Broadway, useful if Fulham Broadway is overcrowded.
  • Imperial Wharf (Overground), around a 15-minute walk along the Thames.

Mainline services run from Clapham Junction and London Victoria, both of which connect easily to the Underground for onward travel.

Buses

Several bus routes stop close to Stamford Bridge. Services from central London and surrounding areas include routes 14, 211 and 414. They run frequently but expect delays after the final whistle as traffic builds around Fulham Road.

Driving and Parking

Driving to Stamford Bridge is not recommended. The stadium is in a residential area with strict parking controls on matchdays. Local streets are heavily patrolled, and spaces are reserved for permit holders. Supporters who must drive should consider using car parks further out and completing the journey by Underground or Overground.

Walking and Cycling

For those staying nearby, walking is one of the easiest ways to reach Stamford Bridge. West London has good cycling infrastructure, and there are bike racks close to the ground. Be aware that heavy pedestrian traffic before and after games can make cycling tricky in the immediate area.

Matchday Travel Tips

  • Arrive early: queues at Fulham Broadway and outside the turnstiles can be long.
  • Use alternative stations: West Brompton and Imperial Wharf often have less congestion.
  • Plan your route back: post-match crowds can slow journeys, so check bus and train timetables in advance.
  • Avoid driving: parking restrictions and traffic make it more hassle than it is worth.
  • Check travel updates: Transport for London (TfL) provides live updates on Tube and bus services, which is essential if engineering works are planned.

TFC Summary

Reaching Stamford Bridge is easiest by public transport, with Fulham Broadway station the most direct option. Buses and Overground services provide alternatives, while driving is strongly discouraged. With planning and extra time, getting to Chelseaโ€™s historic home can be straightforward and stress-free.
