This club was formed by the Wrexham Cricket Club and it is the 5th oldest football association in the world and 2nd oldest in Wales. AFC Wrexham played their first match against the Prince of Wales Fire Brigades on 22 October 1864. During those years, the rules of football were not very well known and the teams used to play with 17 players on each side.

The most goals scored by a single player are 7 in a single match, Andy Morell on 16 February 2000 did this.
