1. Gelora Bung Karno Stadium is located in Jakarta which is the Capital of Indonesia. The construction of this stadium started on 8 February 1960 and it was ready for opening in the July of 1962.

2. Gelora Bung Karno Stadium has a capacity of 77,193. The construction of this stadium cost about $12,500,000. Its construction was financed by the former Soviet Union.

3. The initial capacity of this stadium was 110,000 and then was later reduced to 88,000 in 2007. Before the 2018 Asian games, the capacity was further reduced to 77, 193 (76,000 seats). 

 4. This stadium has hosted many important matches and events such as football at the Asian Games in 1962, South East Asian Games in 1979, 1987, 1997, 2011, and 2018.

5. This stadium has also hosted events apart from football matches like concerts, fashion events and even the exams for STAN in 2015. This stadium once hosted a music concert of English Rock band “Deep Purple” in 1975 in which around 150,000 fans attended this concert exceeding the official capacity of the stadium.

6. This stadium was chosen for the concerts of many great and famous personalities such as Michael Jackson’s Dangerous World Tour in 1993, Lady Gaga’s Born this way ball and Linkin Park’s A thousand Suns World Tour.

7. The stadium is popularly known as Gelora Bung Karno Stadium but the official name of this stadium is “Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium”. This is due to the presence of other stadiums in Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex. 

8. This stadium has seats that are too comfortable. Unlike, many other stadiums which use a Single-seat flip up design, the seats in this stadium are like old-school long chairs. Which are more comfortable.

9. This stadium has a separate portion of 200 seats which are reserved for disabled fans. A thing which is not much seen in many European or Asian stadiums. 

10. The grass in this stadium which is used as the turf is called Manila glass. This grass is also used in Allianz Arena.
