Stadium Information

Santiago Bernabéu Stadium has been the home of Real Madrid since 1947 and today stands as one of the most famous football venues in the world. Set in the Chamartín district of Madrid, the ground has evolved from a conventional mid-twentieth-century bowl into a highly advanced multi-use arena.

Following the huge renovation project completed in the mid-2020s, capacity sits at just over eighty-one thousand, with seating reconfigured for comfort, improved sightlines, and better access routes. A striking new steel skin wraps the exterior, giving the stadium a smooth, silver profile that contrasts with the dense urban streets around it.

Inside, the stands rise steeply on all sides, enclosing a hybrid grass pitch that can now be withdrawn into an underground tray system when not in use. This allows the club to host concerts and other events while preserving the playing surface. A full retractable roof can close over the bowl, and a continuous 360-degree screen encircles the upper tier, turning matchdays into a full stadium show. Hospitality areas, lounges, and sky boxes have been expanded, while general concourses have been widened and modernised to cope with large crowds.

On a Real Madrid matchday, the Bernabéu feels both modern and intensely traditional. Supporters approach along the Paseo de la Castellana and surrounding streets, filling the bars and cafés before moving toward the gates. Once inside, the sound from over eighty thousand fans is trapped beneath the roof and steep stands, creating an atmosphere that has intimidated visiting teams for decades.

Accessibility has improved with lifts, ramps, wheelchair platforms, and clearly signed step-free routes, helping the club welcome a wide range of supporters. The rebuilt Bernabéu now combines cutting-edge engineering with the history and expectation that define Real Madrid’s identity.
