With a capacity of more over 45,000, the new stadium will be called the ROSHN Stadium. The spectators’ comfort is guaranteed by the saddle-shaped sitting bowl and envelope, and the various stand heights provide for cross-ventilation and shade. The parabolic form of the bowl will produce an immersive, joyous experience by acting as an audio amplifier. Southwest Riyadh is where the new stadium will be situated. With a distinct appearance and atmosphere from a standard sports arena, it wants to become the hub of the neighborhood even though it is designed for big football games. The stadium’s dynamic architecture encourages people to stroll through and around the building. It is intended to be a part of the urban fabric. It will be situated in the middle of a plaza, with the bowl’s “crystalline” structure—a delicate latticework that will light in the night sky—enveloping it.
The stadium will serve as the focal point of a walkable neighborhood with green areas, public squares, and amenities following the FIFA World Cup 2034, encouraging a way of life centered on social interactions and cultural pursuits. The precinct is the cornerstone of the events’ and the neighborhood’s future history. It will initially be used to fulfill FIFA tournament requirements before being converted into shopping, dining, and entertainment spaces, hospitality, and offices. In addition, it will provide mixed-use sports facilities, education programs, and a venue for concerts, big events, and competitions.
