Construction

Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s construction started on 19 May 2014 and was completed 3 years later on 26 August 2017.

Original name

Before finalizing the name – Mercedes-Benz Stadium. There was a name that was decided while the stadium was being constructed and that was New Atlanta Stadium. After construction, the owners agreed to change the name, and then the name Mercedes-Benz Stadium was decided.

Capacity

Mercedes-Benz Stadium has a capacity to hold 71,000 fans for American football which further can be increased to 75,000. For Soccer, this stadium can hold up to 42,500 fans and can be expanded to 71,000. 

Highest attendance

The highest record attendance of Mercedes-Benz Stadium for American football was recorded in 2019, a total of 78,347 fans attended the match. For soccer, the highest attendance is 73,019. 

Cost and features

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is equipped with the latest technology and has all the facilities. It also has a 360-degree HD video board which is the largest video board of its kind. Thus, all these things make the construction cost of this stadium US$1.6 Billion.

Interesting facts

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is so massive that a total of 35,000 gallons of paint was used to paint this gigantic piece of art. Another interesting detail is that to fix the roof of the stadium, 85,000 bolts were used. 

Falcon structure

The Falcon structure outside of Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the largest free-standing structure in the world. 

TVs built inside the stadium

There are 2500 TVs throughout the stadium so that if the fans go to the food area or the restrooms, they can stay connected with the game all the time. 

Telstar soccer ball

The Telstar soccer ball structure at Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the biggest soccer ball sculpture in the United States. 

Material used

According to the reports, 150,000 cubic yards of concrete were used to build the stadium. The roof of the stadium is retractable and is different from other stadiums having retractable roofs because this one can open and close in just 7 minutes. The roof design is inspired by Falcon’s wings and triangular panels wrap around the stadium.
