The Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City Football Club, is one of the most modern football venues in Europe. Whether you’re attending a Premier League clash or joining a stadium tour, this guide covers all the key information to help you plan your visit.

Getting to the Etihad Stadium

The stadium is located in East Manchester, roughly 1.5 miles from the city centre.

Public Transport:

  • Tram: The Ashton-under-Lyne line stops at Etihad Campus, just a short walk from the ground. Trams run frequently from Manchester Piccadilly and take under 10 minutes.
  • Bus: Several services run from central Manchester to Ashton New Road, including the 216 and 231 routes.
  • Train: Manchester Piccadilly is the nearest major train station. From there, you can take a tram or enjoy a 25-minute walk via the CityLink route.

Parking:
There are official car parks around the stadium, but spaces are limited on matchdays. Booking in advance is highly recommended. Street parking in the surrounding area is controlled, with enforcement active during events.

Stadium Layout and Seating

The Etihad holds over 53,000 fans and is divided into four main stands: the Colin Bell Stand, East Stand, South Stand, and North Stand.

  • Family and Neutral Sections: Typically located in the lower tiers of the Colin Bell Stand.
  • Home Supporters: Concentrated in the South Stand and East Stand.
  • Away Fans: Usually seated in the South East corner, lower and upper tiers.

Sightlines are excellent across the ground, with steep stands and an enclosed design enhancing the atmosphere. The stadium is fully accessible, with dedicated areas and amenities for disabled supporters.

Matchday Experience

Manchester City operates a ‘City Square’ fan zone outside the stadium, offering food stalls, bars, music, and live interviews with club legends. The vibe is lively but well managed, suitable for families and groups alike.

Food and Drink Inside the Ground:
Concessions serve standard matchday fare including pies, burgers, hot dogs, and soft drinks. Contactless payments are accepted throughout.

Security and Entry:
Bag searches and ticket checks are in place. Turnstiles usually open 90 minutes before kick-off. Arrive early to avoid queues, especially for high-profile matches.

Tours and Non-Matchday Visits

The Etihad Stadium offers daily tours that include access to the home dressing room, tunnel, pitchside, press conference room, and the club’s trophy collection. There’s also a ‘City Story’ exhibition area that covers the club’s history and rise under new ownership.

Tours can be booked online and are available in multiple languages. Discounts are often offered for juniors, students, and families.

Accessibility and Facilities

  • Accessible Entrances: Clearly marked and located close to accessible parking bays.
  • Toilets and Changing Areas: Well maintained and regularly cleaned.
  • Hearing loops, commentary headsets, and assistance dogs: All accommodated upon request.

The club also operates a dedicated Access Team to assist visitors with special requirements.

Club Shop and Merchandise

The City Store is located on the west side of the stadium and stocks the full range of official kits, training wear, souvenirs, and collectibles. Matchdays are especially busy, so it’s advisable to visit early or consider ordering online.

Nearby Attractions and Accommodation

If you’re staying in Manchester, the Northern Quarter and Ancoats are both nearby and offer excellent bars, restaurants, and hotels. For those travelling specifically for the match, budget and premium hotel options are available within a 20-minute walk.

The TFC Stadiums Takeaway

  • Download your ticket or have it ready via the club’s app before arriving.
  • Bring photo ID if attending with a concession or junior ticket.
  • Check the weather in advance; the Etihad is partially covered but lower-tier seats can be exposed.

Whether you’re a lifelong supporter or a first-time visitor, the Etihad offers a professional and enjoyable football experience. From the transport options to the fan atmosphere, everything is designed to be as smooth and accessible as possible.
