Famous Champions League Final Stadiums

The UEFA Champions League final has been played in some of the most iconic stadiums in football history. These venues are not only renowned for their architecture and atmosphere but also for hosting nights that defined European football. From Wembley to the San Siro, each ground carries its own story.

Wembley Stadium, London

No stadium is more synonymous with major finals than Wembley. The old Wembley staged five European Cup finals, while the rebuilt version has hosted three since 2011. Its central location, iconic arch, and 90,000-seat capacity make it the ultimate stage for football.

  • Hosted finals: 1963, 1968, 1971, 1978, 1992, 2011, 2013, 2024
  • Known for: Iconic arch, England’s national stadium, global football showcase

Santiago Bernabéu, Madrid

Home to Real Madrid, the most successful club in the competition, the Santiago Bernabéu has hosted the final five times. It witnessed the famous 1957 final and more recently the 2010 showdown between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.

  • Hosted finals: 1957, 1969, 1980, 2010, 2025
  • Known for: Historic atmosphere, Madrid city centre setting, modern redevelopment

San Siro, Milan

Shared by AC Milan and Inter, the San Siro has been a stage for legendary finals. Its distinctive design and passionate Italian crowds create an unmatched atmosphere. The 2016 final between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid was one of its most memorable nights.

  • Hosted finals: 1965, 1970, 2001, 2016
  • Known for: Italian football temple, steep stands, passionate fan culture

Stade de France, Paris

Built for the 1998 World Cup, the Stade de France is the largest stadium in France and has staged three Champions League finals. Its location in Saint-Denis and its vast capacity make it a key UEFA venue.

  • Hosted finals: 2000, 2006, 2022
  • Known for: Modern design, national significance, neutral atmosphere

Olympiastadion, Berlin

The Olympiastadion combines historical architecture with modern upgrades. It staged the 2015 final, when Barcelona beat Juventus, and is widely regarded as one of the most impressive arenas in Europe.

  • Hosted finals: 2015
  • Known for: Monumental design, historic Olympic links, grand setting

Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Istanbul

A ground famous for one of the greatest finals ever, the 2005 “Miracle of Istanbul” when Liverpool came back from 3-0 down against AC Milan. It again staged the 2023 final, adding to its reputation as a dramatic venue.

  • Hosted finals: 2005, 2023
  • Known for: Iconic comeback, vast capacity, Istanbul’s unique setting

Old Trafford, Manchester

Although not a frequent host, Old Trafford staged the 2003 final between AC Milan and Juventus. Known as the “Theatre of Dreams,” it remains one of the most famous stadiums in the world and a fitting venue for the competition’s climax.

  • Hosted finals: 2003
  • Known for: Manchester United’s home, steeped in tradition, strong European pedigree

Hampden Park, Glasgow

Hampden has hosted three finals, including the 1960 showdown between Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt, often considered the greatest European Cup final of all time. The compact bowl design and Scottish atmosphere give it a unique charm.
