Accessibility at Allianz Arena

Matt Tait December 29, 2025 3 minutes read
Allianz Arena Accessibility

Allianz Arena is one of Europe’s most recognisable stadiums, but it is not just a visual statement on Munich’s skyline. It is also one of the better examples of how a modern football ground can be made genuinely accessible, rather than simply compliant on paper. Home to FC Bayern Munich, the stadium was designed with inclusive matchday access in mind, and it shows once you are on site.

Getting There and Arrival

Accessibility starts long before the turnstiles. Allianz Arena is well connected by public transport, with the U6 underground line offering step free access at Fröttmaning station. From there, the approach to the stadium is flat and wide, with clearly marked pedestrian routes that avoid steep gradients or awkward bottlenecks.

Accessible parking spaces are available close to the stadium for visitors who arrive by car. These spaces are positioned to minimise walking distance and are supported by clear signage and staff presence on busier matchdays.

Accessible Entrances and Circulation

The stadium’s entrances are well planned, with step free access throughout. Ramps and lifts are integrated cleanly into the structure rather than feeling like add ons. Security checks for wheelchair users and guests with mobility needs are handled at designated access points, which helps avoid unnecessary queues or cramped spaces.

Inside the stadium, concourses are wide, well lit, and easy to navigate. The circular layout makes orientation intuitive, and lifts connect all public levels, including seating tiers, hospitality areas, and accessible toilets.

Wheelchair and Companion Seating

Allianz Arena provides a substantial number of wheelchair spaces, distributed around the stadium to offer a range of viewing angles rather than a single isolated section. Sightlines are strong, with positions carefully chosen to avoid obstruction from railings or standing spectators.

Each wheelchair space includes seating for a companion, positioned close enough to allow conversation and shared experience. This might sound obvious, but it is an area where many older stadiums still fall short.

Facilities and Matchday Support

Accessible toilets are available on all relevant levels and are generally easy to locate thanks to consistent signage. They are spacious, well maintained, and designed to cope with peak matchday demand.

Catering counters are set at a practical height, and staff are usually proactive if assistance is needed. Stewards receive accessibility training and are visible throughout the stadium, which makes a real difference when small issues arise, such as lift congestion or crowd flow after full time.

Sensory and Additional Accessibility Needs

For visitors with sensory sensitivities, Allianz Arena benefits from relatively good crowd management and clear audio announcements. The stadium can still be loud, especially during big European nights, but quieter areas are available in concourses away from the main stands.

Information desks can provide guidance for guests with additional needs, and advance contact with the club allows tailored arrangements to be made, particularly for first time visitors.

Overall Experience

Allianz Arena gets most of the important things right. Access feels considered rather than forced, and the stadium functions smoothly even when operating at full capacity. It is not perfect, no stadium is, but it sets a high standard that many newer venues have yet to match.

For supporters who rely on accessible facilities, it offers something close to what football should always provide, a matchday that is about the game, not about overcoming obstacles just to reach your seat.
