Signal Iduna Park Seating Plan: The Best Spots for Atmosphere, Views, and Comfort

Signal Iduna Park inside stands

Signal Iduna Park, home of Borussia Dortmund, is one of the most iconic football stadiums in Europe. Known for its electric atmosphere and famous Yellow Wall, the stadium can hold over 81,000 fans when standing areas are in use. Understanding the seating plan is key for anyone attending a match, whether you want the most passionate atmosphere, the best views, or family-friendly seating.

Overall Stadium Layout

Signal Iduna Park is divided into four main stands, each with its own character and vantage points:

  • South Stand (Sรผdtribรผne): The legendary Yellow Wall, Europeโ€™s largest terrace for standing fans.
  • North Stand (Nordtribรผne): Opposite the Yellow Wall, with both seated and away-fan sections.
  • East Stand (Osttribรผne): Houses the dugouts, media, and VIP sections, offering excellent side views.
  • West Stand (Westtribรผne): The main stand with executive boxes, family areas, and prime halfway-line seating.

The South Stand: The Yellow Wall

The Sรผdtribรผne is the heart of Signal Iduna Park. With space for more than 24,000 standing fans, it is the largest single terrace in European football. On European matchdays, when standing is not permitted, it converts into an all-seater stand. This section is ideal for supporters who want to be part of the most intense atmosphere in the ground.

The North Stand

The Nordtribรผne balances between home and visiting fans. The away section is located in the upper corner, while the rest of the stand is home support with both seating and some standing. Views are slightly further from the pitch compared to the East and West stands but still provide a strong matchday experience.

The East Stand

The Osttribรผne runs along the touchline and is popular with fans who want a clear view of the tactical shape of the game. This is also where media, cameras, and player benches are situated. Seating here is often favoured by fans looking for a balanced perspective of the action.

The West Stand

The Westtribรผne is the most premium part of the stadium. It features hospitality areas, VIP boxes, and family seating. Located opposite the East Stand, it gives excellent views from the halfway line. This area is best suited for those wanting comfort and a more relaxed matchday experience.

Seating Capacity

  • Total capacity: Around 81,365 (standing domestic matches)
  • Seated capacity: Around 65,829 (international matches)
  • South Stand terrace: Over 24,000 standing places
  • Away allocation: Roughly 10% of capacity, located in the North-East corner

Best Places to Sit

  • For atmosphere: South Stand (standing)
  • For views: East or West stands near the halfway line
  • For families: Designated sections in the West Stand
  • For away fans: North-East corner, upper tier

TFC Takeaway

Signal Iduna Park is not only Germanyโ€™s largest stadium but also one of the most atmospheric in world football. Whether you are looking for the raw energy of the Yellow Wall or the comfort of premium seating, the stadiumโ€™s design ensures every fan has a memorable experience.
